Wimborne & Blandford Decorative & Fine Arts Society

The Society recently completed a 4 day Workshop, at Beaucroft School, Wimborne, a school for children with Special Needs, led by artist Anita Andrews. The pupils created mosaic designs which were applied to two tall chimney pots, to be placed in the garden. The project was worked on with huge enthusiasm, and was a great sucess.

Young Arts Projects have long been a part of our society’s outreach programme. The purpose of a Young Arts project is to help support local schools and other groups involved with young people by setting up Art based projects and supervising them. Recent projects with primary schools have been the creation of a quilt with a One World theme. Another was the creation of a large elephant all created from recycled materials. Another was the designing and making of furniture also from recycled materials.

Our latest project was a combined project between Heritage Volunteers and Young Arts. A student from The Arts University College Bournemouth was sponsored by W&BDFAS to experience working in a museum environment to study conservation, research and cataloguing. A small exhibition of her work was then set up at the next W&BDFAS meeting.
