4 Day Break centred on Liverpool - 6 to 9 September 2017
Wednesday 06 September 2017

Please note that the balance is due for this trip by 5th July at the latest.  If you have not already paid the final balance please do so soonest.  Any queries please contact Albert as a matter of urgency.  Thank You.

Due to popular demand this trip is now fully booked in all room types.  We are however happy to take names for the waiting list, in case of cancellation.

Our extended visit this year is centred on Liverpool, Capital of Culture in 2008, a city that is rich in art and design attractions. By popular demand, we will be staying in the four-star Best Western Premier Queens Hotel in the centre of Chester, a beautiful location just a short coach ride from the centre of Liverpool.

On route from Wimborne we visit Compton Verney, a former manor house now a spectacular art gallery set in a landscaped park that is itself full of contemporary sculpture. Among the gallery’s permanent collection are portraits of British royalty from Tudor times to the early 19th Century, one of Europe’s foremost displays of Chinese art and the largest assembly of British folk art in the UK.

The following day we set off for a guided coach tour of Liverpool, with stops at the city’s two famous cathedrals with their contrasting architectural styles, before arriving at the exciting Liverpool Waterfront. Here we will spend the afternoon, free to take lunch, enjoy some shopping and visit any of the many attractions on offer, such as Tate Liverpool, Museum of Liverpool or the Maritime Museum, all within a stone’s throw of one another.

On day three we take a scenic tour via Ruthin and Horseshoe Pass to National Trust’s Erddig Hall where we get a glimpse of life above and below stairs. We will explore the servants’ quarters and admire the previous owners’ treasure trove of fine furniture, textiles and wallpapers. This magnificent house is set in a fully restored 18th Century garden. After lunch we return to Liverpool to visit the Walker Art Gallery, which houses one of Europe’s finest collections of paintings, drawings, sculpture and decorative art.

On our way home on day four we take the opportunity to experience the unique Wedgwood Museum in Barlaston, housing the firm’s finest products from its earliest days. Begun in 1906, the refurbished award-winning galleries reopened in 2008 to much acclaim.

The trip, organised in conjunction with Wayahead Travel, will cost £320 per person sharing a twin room. Single-room supplement is £93. This includes dinner, bed and breakfast at the hotel, with a pre-dinner drink and a glass of wine with dinner. Also included are entrance fees (except at Erddig for those who are not National Trust members), transportation, all gratuities and light refreshments on both outward and homeward journeys. A detailed itinerary will be supplied at a later date to all members participating.
